A prominent figure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State, Alhaji Sani Adamu Yarin Fika, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing Governor Mai Mala Buni’s leadership and developmental strides as his motivation.
The defection, which took place during a ceremony in Damaturu, was announced in a statement by the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed.
According to the statement, Fika said he was impressed by Governor Buni’s focus on inclusive governance and his efforts toward transforming Yobe’s infrastructure and economy.
“I decided to join the APC because I see sincerity, progress, and purpose under Governor Buni’s leadership,” Fika declared.
“This is the kind of leadership that inspires unity and development. I am bringing my people from Zone B to contribute to this vision.”
He further noted that his supporters across Potiskum and the entire Zone B senatorial district had followed his lead, pledging total loyalty to the APC.
“Mark my words,” Fika said emphatically. “PDP and any other opposition party in Yobe State no longer stand a chance.”
Welcoming him into the party, Yobe APC Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Gadaka, described the defection as a major political gain for the ruling party.
“Sani Adamu’s decision to join us is a big catch for APC in Yobe,” Gadaka said. “We assure him of equal opportunities and a true sense of belonging within our fold.”
Governor Buni, who personally received Fika and his supporters, expressed joy over their decision to align with his administration’s vision. He said their membership symbolised unity and would further strengthen the APC’s presence across the state.
“Alhaji Fika’s entry into our party is not just symbolic, it will enhance our grassroots reach, especially in Zone B,” Buni remarked.
“We welcome him wholeheartedly and look forward to working together to move Yobe forward.”
Political observers in the state have described Fika’s defection as a significant blow to the PDP’s structure, particularly in areas where he had long been regarded as an influential mobilizer.
With this latest political shift, analysts believe the APC is tightening its grip on Yobe ahead of the next electoral cycle, thereby further weakening the opposition’s influence in the state’s political landscape.
