The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly reacted to the recent threat by former United States President, Donald Trump, to launch military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
Trump had earlier designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and directed the US Department of War to prepare for possible intervention, citing what he described as ongoing genocide against Christians in the country.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, in a post on his official X handle, said the terror group issued a “propaganda message circulated on its usual communication channels” in response to Trump’s remarks.
According to Makama, ISWAP described Trump as a “reckless American tyrant,” claiming he was influenced by “evangelical Christian and Jewish advisers” during his administration.
The group also alleged that the former US president’s warning was part of a wider attempt by the United States to portray itself as a “global defender of Christians.”
Makama said the extremists cautioned their fighters against using smartphones, gathering in large numbers, or moving unnecessarily to avoid detection.
The group further called on Muslims across West Africa to “unite” and take the US threat seriously, accusing Western nations of committing “crimes against African Muslims.”
