Bola Tinubu vows to crush terrorism amid US military threat

Must read

President Bola Tinubu has restated his administration’s unwavering resolve to end terrorism and deepen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements with global partners.

Speaking moments before Thursday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu said his government remains focused on delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to build a safer and more prosperous nation.

“We are engaging the world diplomatically, and I assure every Nigerian that we will defeat terrorism,” the President said before the council entered a closed-door session.

“The task before us is clear, to move forward with unity, purpose, and determination to build a nation that works for all.”

The meeting, held at the Council Chamber of Aso Rock, marked the first FEC gathering since July. It came amid fresh diplomatic tensions following the recent designation of Nigeria by U.S. President Donald Trump as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

The classification, which Washington said was due to religious freedom and security concerns, has been strongly rejected by the Nigerian government.

In his first public response to the development, Tinubu maintained that his administration is in constant dialogue with international allies to correct misconceptions and promote cooperation on security, trade, and development.

“Despite political headwinds, we remain committed to engaging our partners in the pursuit of peace and progress,” Tinubu said.

“The oversubscription of our $2.3 billion Eurobond shows global confidence in our economic direction.”

The President emphasised that his government’s mission goes beyond immediate challenges, noting that the administration’s long-term focus is on uniting the nation and driving inclusive growth.

He also commended his cabinet members for their “dedication and sacrifice,” urging them to remain focused on implementing key reforms under the Renewed Hope framework.

“The journey ahead demands teamwork and discipline,” Tinubu added. “Our people look up to us to deliver, and we must not fail them.”

The FEC meeting is expected to address national security, economic stability, and social welfare reforms, key areas Tinubu said would define the next phase of his administration’s governance agenda.
