NWC of dead tax collectors – Fayose mocks PDP faction over US Embassy protest

Must read

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has condemned the protest staged by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the United States Embassy in Abuja

He described the development as a shameful display and the “last kick of a dead National Working Committee (NWC) of tax collectors.”

Fayose, in a statement on Thursday, said instead of carrying placards at the US Embassy, “the suspended National Chairman, Umar Iliya Damagum and his gang of tax collectors should have traveled to Washington to go and protest in front of the White House.”

He queried why the group believed it was the responsibility of the US or other European nations to intervene in the internal affairs of a Nigerian political party.

According to him, “Damagum and his gang of political undertakers” had consistently violated the PDP constitution and ignored due process in managing the party’s affairs.

Fayose recalled that a court ruling last week ordered the PDP to conclude certain internal processes, including outstanding state congresses, before convening a national convention.

He noted that rather than obeying the court order and reconciling aggrieved stakeholders, the faction went ahead to announce the suspension of key NWC members, including the National Secretary, who is constitutionally empowered to issue meeting notices.

The former governor said the group’s actions, including internal legal disputes over representation, were the result of impunity and self-interest, adding, “So, how is the consequence of their impunity the business of the US or anyone?”
