Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State for allegedly being in possession of live ammunition believed to be meant for bandits.
Security analyst and counterinsurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this in a post on Thursday on his official X handle (formerly Twitter).
Makama said the woman, whose identity was withheld, was intercepted on Wednesday during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Tsafe–Gusau highway.
He added that the ammunition was concealed in her luggage while travelling through the area.
“The suspect, believed to be from Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, was found with live ammunition suspected to be destined for bandits,” Makama wrote.
Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area, Malam Garba Shehu, confirmed the arrest, describing it as a major breakthrough in the fight against arms smuggling and banditry in the state.
“I want to appreciate the NDLEA operatives for their vigilance and dedication. This arrest has prevented dangerous ammunition from reaching criminal elements threatening peace in our communities,” Shehu said.
The suspect has been transferred to a secure facility for further investigation, while security agencies intensify efforts to track the source and intended recipients of the ammunition.
