Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman found with live ammunition allegedly meant for bandits operating in Zamfara State.
The arrest took place on Wednesday during a stop-and-search operation along the Tsafe–Gusau highway in Tsafe Local Government Area. Sources said the woman, reportedly from Birnin Magaji, had the ammunition neatly concealed inside her luggage before she was intercepted by vigilant officers.
Local officials described the arrest as a major success in the ongoing clampdown on criminal logistics across the state.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of Tsafe Local Government Area, Malam Garba Shehu, applauded the NDLEA officers for their swift action and professionalism.
“This is a significant step in our collective fight against insecurity,” Shehu said.
“The arrest has prevented dangerous weapons from falling into the wrong hands and threatening peace in our communities.”
He further vowed that the council would continue to cooperate with all security agencies to maintain law and order.
“As a local government, we remain committed to supporting security operations. Anyone caught aiding banditry or any form of crime will not be spared by the law,” Shehu added.
NDLEA officials have since transferred the suspect to a secure facility for further questioning.
Investigations are underway to determine the source of the ammunition and the identities of the intended recipients.
Meanwhile, security operatives in Zamfara have intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering around key routes linking Tsafe, Birnin Magaji, and the Dansadau forest, areas known for bandit activity and illegal arms trafficking.
Residents have expressed optimism that such coordinated efforts will help curb the movement of arms and restore lasting peace to the region.
