Senate halts confirmation of Udeh as minister

Must read

The Senate on Wednesday suspended the confirmation of Kingsley Udeh as minister following the absence of a mandatory security clearance.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision during plenary, saying the confirmation could not proceed without the required security report on the nominee.

“The confirmation of the minister-nominee would have been next on the list, but we need security clearance,” Akpabio informed the Senate.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier, on Tuesday, written to the upper chamber seeking Udeh’s confirmation as minister.

The letter, read by Akpabio during plenary, conveyed the President’s request for the appointment of Udeh, who hails from Enugu State, into the Federal Executive Council.
