More than 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dumped their party to join the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, pledging their loyalty to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
The mass defection, which took place in the Tarai community of Kibiya Local Government Area, was received by the state’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu A. Kibiya.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, the commissioner described the move as a reflection of the people’s growing confidence in the NNPP-led government’s developmental agenda.
According to Kiru, the defectors, led by the APC woman leader in Tarai, Hajiya Sabuwa Tarai, said their decision was influenced by the visible transformation projects being executed across Kano under Governor Yusuf.
Hajiya Tarai explained that the governor’s efforts in infrastructure, education, and social welfare had restored public trust in governance.
“We are joining the NNPP because we have seen real progress and a commitment to the welfare of ordinary citizens,” she said.
Welcoming the new members, Commissioner Kibiya expressed joy over their decision and assured them of fair treatment and full inclusion in party activities.
He urged the defectors to contribute actively to the NNPP’s growth at the grassroots level, emphasising that the party’s strength lies in unity and collective purpose.
“This is not just about politics; it’s about building a better Kano for everyone. We believe that with your support, our government will continue to deliver on its promises,” Kibiya stated.
The commissioner further encouraged other communities to emulate Tarai’s example by aligning with the NNPP’s mission of people-centred development and inclusive governance.
