Christian Genocide: US lawmaker blasts Kwankwaso over sharia law

Must read

A member of the United States Congress, representing West Virginia’s Second District, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has berated former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over his comments on the alleged killing of Christians in Nigeria.

Kwankwaso had earlier reacted to the decision by former US President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and the accompanying threat of military action, dismissing claims of Christian genocide in the country.

According to Kwankwaso, who was the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), the security challenges confronting Nigeria “do not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.”

However, Rep. Moore, in a post on his official X handle, faulted the former governor’s position and accused him of complicity in the persecution of Christians during his tenure.

According to the US lawmaker, Kwankwaso instituted the sharia legal system in Kano State, which he claimed made blasphemy “punishable by death.”

The lawmaker wrote, “Governor – do you care to comment on your own complicity in the death of Christians?

“You instituted Sharia law. You signed the law that makes so-called blasphemy punishable by death.”
