Senate President Godswill Akpabio has distanced himself from a viral report claiming he made a disparaging remark about U.S President Donald Trump’s alleged threat to invade Nigeria over the killing of Christians.
The report, published by an online platform, had quoted Akpabio as mocking Trump and urging him to “focus on U.S. challenges,” a statement his office described as false and mischievous.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio dismissed the publication as fabricated and malicious, insisting he never made such comments either publicly or privately.
Eyiboh said, “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious and completely fabricated post published by a platform, falsely attributing a reckless and imaginary statement to the President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.”
He challenged the publishers to provide evidence of the alleged statement and accused them of using a misleading photograph to lend false authenticity to the story.
According to him, Akpabio remains a statesman of international standing and a strong believer in diplomacy and mutual respect among nations.
He added that the Senate President “holds President Donald Trump in high regard as a historic figure and would never comment on internal U.S. matters.”
Eyiboh described the report as “a clear act of digital recklessness” and urged the public to disregard it, reaffirming that Akpabio’s office remains committed to truth and responsible communication.
