Senate denies fake quote linking Akpabio to comment on Trump

Must read

The Office of the President of the Senate has dismissed as false and malicious a social media post claiming that Senate President Godswill Akpabio made derogatory comments about U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President described the viral post published by a platform called Rant HQ as a “completely fabricated and mischievous falsehood” aimed at creating tension between Nigeria and its international allies.

The post in question falsely quoted Akpabio as saying, “The killing is taking place in Nigeria, not in the USA. Trump should focus on the U.S. Nigerians are not complaining about the killings; we are fully satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.”

Eyiboh clarified that the Senate President never made such a statement “publicly, privately, in writing, or in conversation,” adding that the accompanying photograph used in the post was deceptively lifted from an unrelated official event to lend credibility to the fake quote.

“The Senate President is a statesman of global repute and a respected advocate of international friendship and diplomacy,” Eyiboh stated.

“He holds President Donald Trump in high regard as a historic leader and would never issue any comment that interferes with the internal affairs of another sovereign nation.”

The statement described the publication as “a clear act of digital recklessness and a deliberate attempt to tarnish reputations and inflame diplomatic sentiments,” urging the public to disregard the post in its entirety.

It further warned Rant HQ and similar platforms to desist from spreading unverified or misleading content for online engagement, stressing that “freedom of expression is not freedom to lie.”

Eyiboh reaffirmed that the Office of the President of the Senate remains committed to transparency, truth, and responsible communication in all matters of public and international interest.
