Tinubu must take strong diplomatic action against Trump – Sheikh Gumi

Must read

Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take strong diplomatic action against U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent remarks threatening possible military intervention in Nigeria.

In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page on Sunday, Gumi described Trump’s comments as an “unprovoked affront” to Nigeria’s sovereignty and dignity.

He urged the federal government not to remain silent in the face of what he termed a “reckless and humiliating statement.”

According to the cleric, the Nigerian government must act swiftly by summoning the U.S. ambassador to explain Trump’s remarks and issue an immediate retraction.

“No country should tolerate such intimidation. President Tinubu must make it clear that Nigeria will not bow to any foreign threat,” Gumi stated.

He further warned that if Washington refuses to withdraw the threat, Abuja should consider cutting diplomatic relations with the U.S. as a matter of national pride and security.

“If they fail to retract the statement, Nigeria should have the courage to suspend diplomatic ties with this kind of administration. Respect among nations must be mutual,” the Kaduna-based preacher said.

Gumi also encouraged President Tinubu to strengthen Nigeria’s alliances with other nations, especially in trade and defence, stressing that the country has multiple avenues to thrive beyond Western influence.

“Nigeria must diversify its global partnerships. Many nations are willing to engage us economically and militarily without seeking to dominate us,” he added.

The cleric’s remarks have sparked conversations across social media, with many Nigerians echoing his demand for the Tinubu administration to defend the nation’s sovereignty through diplomatic firmness rather than silence.
