Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have apprehended seven suspected cultists and recovered dangerous weapons during a raid on a criminal hideout in the North Bank area of Makurdi, Benue State.

The operation, carried out on October 30, 2025, was part of ongoing military efforts to tackle criminal activities and restore peace in the state capital and its environs.

Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, in a statement, said the troops recovered two locally made pistols, one cartridge, a round of 7.62mm ammunition, an empty shell casing, a dagger, and several bags containing charms and other incriminating materials.

He said the suspects, who were allegedly involved in armed robbery, drug-related crimes, and cult violence, are currently being interrogated and will be charged to court after investigations.

Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Moses Gara, lauded the troops for their professionalism and commitment to duty, urging them to remain steadfast in combating insecurity in the state.

He also cautioned youths, particularly students, against engaging in cultism and encouraged them to pursue peace and patriotism.

Operation Whirl Stroke reaffirmed its resolve to sustain security operations across Benue and neighbouring states to ensure lasting peace.
