The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its top national officers following a recent court order that stopped its proposed national convention.
The suspended officials include the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); Deputy Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha; and National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature.
The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) announced the decision after an emergency meeting held on Saturday at its Legacy House headquarters in Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, explained that the suspension would last for one month, pending the outcome of investigations by the party’s disciplinary committee.
According to Ologunagba, the NWC acted within the framework of the party’s constitution to maintain internal discipline and ensure accountability.
“In light of recent developments and in adherence to our constitution, the NWC has decided to suspend the affected officers for one month while the disciplinary committee conducts its review,” he stated.
He emphasised that the move was aimed at protecting the integrity of the PDP amid internal disputes triggered by the halted convention.
A senior party source who spoke anonymously described the decision as a necessary step to “restore order and unity within the ranks.”
“The leadership had no choice but to take decisive action. This is not about punishment; it’s about ensuring that due process and loyalty to the party’s structure are maintained,” the source said.
The suspension comes amid growing tension within the PDP over leadership struggles and the legal battles surrounding its next convention.
AFRIPOST reports that the latest move could further deepen divisions or pave the way for reconciliation, depending on how the disciplinary process unfolds.
