Don’t define Nigeria by false narratives — FG slams Trump’s genocide allegations

Must read

The Federal Government has rejected the claim made by U.S. President Donald Trump alleging that Christians are being massacred in Nigeria, saying the assertion is baseless and does not reflect the country’s realities.

In a strongly worded statement, the government said Trump’s remark misrepresents Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and foster harmony among its multi-religious population.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, such claims often emerge from “special interests” whose goal is to incite tension and destabilise the West African subregion.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, in a statement issued in Abuja, reaffirmed that the Nigerian government remains devoted to protecting every citizen regardless of faith, ethnicity, or background.

“Our commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence remains unshaken. Nigeria will not be defined by false narratives or divisive rhetoric,” the statement declared.

Ebienfa noted that the country’s security forces continue to confront extremist groups head-on while ensuring the safety of innocent civilians.

“We mourn all victims of terrorism and honour the courage of our military men and women who stand in defence of freedom and peace,” the ministry added.

The government further stressed that Nigeria, like the United States, draws its strength from diversity and remains guided by the principles of faith, tolerance, inclusion, and respect for international law.

While reaffirming the cordial relations between Abuja and Washington, the statement expressed confidence that both nations would continue to cooperate in promoting peace, democracy, and global stability.

“The United States has been a dependable partner, and under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria will keep strengthening alliances that support genuine democracy and freedom,” the ministry concluded.
