Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has ridiculed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for kicking off its governorship campaign just a week before the state’s crucial election, describing the move as a “sign of unpreparedness and desperation.”
Governor Soludo made the remarks during the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign rally held in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, where he rallied massive support for his re-election bid.
He accused the APC of treating the election as a joke, insisting that the ruling APGA remains the only party with a clear vision for the state’s development.
According to him, “Launching a campaign only seven days to an election is a mockery of the democratic process.
“It simply shows they are not ready for leadership. Anambra people are too enlightened to fall for such last-minute political drama.”
Soludo, who has been in office since 2022, said the APC’s late start was evidence that its candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his party had already accepted defeat even before the first ballot was cast.
He called on residents to turn out in large numbers on November 8 to reaffirm their faith in APGA’s agenda for continuity and progress.
“On election day, go out, collect their money if they offer it, but vote wisely.
“Let your vote speak for the progress we have built together over the past three years,” Soludo told cheering supporters.
Meanwhile, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, had earlier declared in Onitsha that his party would defeat APGA in the forthcoming poll, describing the APC as “a messenger of hope” for the people of Anambra.
He made the statement at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral during the party’s campaign flag-off for Ukachukwu.
Reacting to the claim, Soludo said Anambra’s progress could not be reversed by “outsiders who have no stake in the future of the state.”
He added that his administration’s record in infrastructure, security, and youth empowerment had already spoken for itself.
“Our people have witnessed transformation in education, roads, and public safety. This election is not about promises but performance,” he added confidently.
The Anambra governorship election is scheduled for November 8, 2025, with APGA, APC, PDP, and LP among the major parties contesting for the state’s top seat.
