Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has said the recent change in service chiefs was driven by the President’s concern over the handling of the nation’s security challenges.
Onanuga, who spoke on Thursday during an interview on Prime Time, described the development as a “routine change” aimed at improving the country’s security management.
He said, “I would say it’s a routine change. The President is concerned about the way the security situation is being addressed and he feels that it’s time to have some new people in-charge.
“He gave them a marching order that they should not allow the crisis that began in 2009 to resurface, 16 years of insurgency or war.
“The President told the new service chiefs that they should do everything possible that this insurgency ends.”
Onanuga also dismissed claims of an attempted coup, describing such reports as baseless rumours.
Speaking further, he said, “It was a mere dissemination of rumour. I am a journalist but sometimes journalists report without asking themselves the benefit of the story to the Nigerian public.
“They write sensational headlines and stories to get traffic, click bait and all of that.”
