A midnight fire on Thursday gutted a section of the popular Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The fire, which reportedly started around 3am, was confined to the Adidas Sports shop within the mall. The cause of the incident could not be immediately ascertained.
Eyewitnesses said firefighters from the Federal Fire Service, the Berger Fire Department, and the FCT Fire Service swiftly responded to contain the blaze. Police officers were also deployed to the scene to maintain order.
A resident of Jabi, Saliu, told our correspondent that the fire was brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the mall.
He said, “Around 3am this morning, there was a fire incident at the Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja. No loss of life or injury was recorded. Only the Adidas Sports shop was affected by the fire.”
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, saying officers were deployed to prevent any breach of peace.
“We received a distress call at about 3:40 a.m. We immediately deployed our men there to secure the place and prevent any breach of public order,” she said.
