Tension has gripped parts of Faskari Local Government Area in Katsina State after armed bandits reportedly killed a resident of Kanon Haki community during a fresh attack on Wednesday.
Security analyst Bakatsine revealed the incident on Thursday, October 30, through a post on X, noting that the assailants are believed to be loyal to Idi (Basu Aiki), a notorious bandit commander known for rejecting peace deals and negotiations with authorities.
According to the report, the victim was ambushed and fatally shot while travelling on his motorcycle. The attackers allegedly seized his bike and money before fleeing the scene.
“The resident of Kanon Haki was killed yesterday by bandits linked to Idi, who continues to reject peace deals. These renewed attacks show an alarming rise in violence in Faskari,” Bakatsine wrote.
Residents described the killing as a shocking reminder of the worsening insecurity in Katsina’s rural areas. One villager who spoke anonymously said the attack has left many locals living in fear.
“We can’t sleep peacefully anymore. People are scared to move around, even during the day,” he lamented.
The latest killing adds to a growing list of violent incidents blamed on armed groups operating in Faskari and neighbouring communities.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the attack, but calls for urgent security intervention continue to mount across the state.
