A tragic case of jealousy has ended in bloodshed as a 20-year-old man, identified as Jibrin Saidu Lamido, was brutally killed following a violent clash linked to a romantic dispute in Gurdadi village, Yusufari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the deadly confrontation occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday, when the victim reportedly visited the residence of his girlfriend, 22-year-old Saratu Gata, in Kalameri village.
What began as a quiet night visit quickly turned violent after an unidentified man arrived at the scene and forcefully took Saratu away, taunting Jibrin to follow “if he was truly a man.”
According to locals, Jibrin attempted to confront the stranger, leading to a heated fight that spiralled out of control.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a cutlass and struck Jibrin on the neck, leaving him with deep wounds that proved fatal.
Security operatives from the Kumaganam Outstation were alerted and rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Kumaganam, where doctors confirmed him dead upon arrival.
His body was later handed over to his family for burial after an autopsy was completed.
Speaking on the incident, a resident who requested anonymity described the attack as “a senseless act driven by envy.”
He said, “Jibrin was a peaceful young man. No one deserves to die in such a cruel manner over a woman.”
Confirming the development, a police source in Yobe State said investigations have commenced, and a manhunt is underway to track down the fleeing suspect.
“We are following strong leads and will ensure the culprit faces justice,” the source assured.
The killing has since sparked tension in the community, with residents calling for tighter security and early interventions in cases of rising youth violence linked to personal disputes.
