One-chance gang member arrested over killing of Abuja fuel attendant

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has captured a suspected one-chance operator allegedly involved in the kidnap and brutal murder of a 23-year-old fuel attendant, Miss Grace Godwin, in Abuja.

According to police authorities, the arrest followed a detailed digital and forensic intelligence operation led by the Scorpion Squad under the command of ACP Victor O. Godfrey.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Kabiru Abdullahi, a native of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State, was tracked down and apprehended after weeks of investigation.

Godwin was reported missing on July 11, 2025, after boarding what she believed was a regular commercial taxi.

Tragically, the vehicle turned out to be operated by a one-chance syndicate that abducted her, demanded ransom from her family, and later murdered her.

Her body was discovered along Alex Ekwueme Street, Jabi, the next day.

During interrogation, Abdullahi reportedly confessed to killing the victim by strangling her with a nylon bag after she bit his finger in a desperate attempt to resist.

He admitted that the gang decided to eliminate her for fear that she might recognise them, as they lived in the same Dape village.

The suspect further mentioned an accomplice, 35-year-old Solomon Tanko, who had earlier been arrested on October 8, 2025, at Life Camp for another one-chance robbery and murder incident.

Police said both men have confessed to the crime and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.

A golden-coloured Toyota Camry (pencil light) believed to have been used during the abduction was also recovered from the suspects.

Reacting to the development, the FCT Commissioner of Police commended the Scorpion Squad for their swift and coordinated efforts, directing that the probe be widened to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate.

“This case shows our renewed commitment to rid the FCT of one-chance criminals and ensure justice for victims like Miss Godwin,” a senior officer familiar with the investigation said.

Residents in the capital have since expressed relief over the breakthrough, urging the police to maintain the tempo in tackling the surge of one-chance operations and other violent crimes in the city.
