Public affairs analyst, Mahdi Shehu, has cautioned Nigerians in the diaspora not to be swayed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s recent comments about the country’s situation, describing them as misleading and contrary to reality.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Wednesday, Shehu accused Akpabio of presenting a false narrative of progress and stability, saying Nigerians abroad should disregard such political statements.
“139 million Nigerians are facing visible hunger, 60 million jobless and unemployed youth, and over 30 million children are suffering from severe malnutrition,” Shehu wrote.
“Nigeria’s debt stock is now at N170 trillion and still counting. Come back home at your own risk.”
He further drew on biblical references to caution against deceitful leadership, citing Psalm 10:7 and Ephesians 5:6 as moral warnings against those who mislead others.
According to Shehu, Nigerian leaders have made deception a norm, while citizens continue to endure poverty, unemployment, and hardship.
“Our leaders have made lying a trade and deception a permanent culture,” he said, urging Nigerians abroad to remain discerning and not be carried away by political rhetoric.
