Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has disclosed that he is under intense pressure from some political figures to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking over the weekend at an event held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Jos, Mutfwang said despite the pressure, he remains committed to the PDP, emphasising that only divine guidance and the people who elected him can influence his political decisions.
“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me.
“But I told them that only two people can authorise me to change my party — one is the God of heaven, and the other is you, the people,” he said.
His comment comes weeks after APC leaders in Plateau reportedly resolved to prevent him from joining their party.
During a stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, the party’s leadership unanimously adopted a motion, reportedly moved by former Deputy National Secretary of the APC, Festus Fuanter, opposing any move by the governor to defect.
“We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours,” Fuanter said at the meeting.
He noted that the APC was confident in its internal structure and did not need external reinforcement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to the stance of the APC leaders, Mutfwang said those opposed to his alleged defection were merely acting out of fear.
