At least twelve passengers have lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a Kano Line bus and a tanker at Darki town in Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State.
The fatal crash occurred along the busy Kano–Gombe highway on Sunday when a tanker driver, reportedly attached to a road construction project, made an abrupt turn across the road.
Witnesses said the Kano-bound commercial bus could not avoid the collision, resulting in a devastating impact that claimed several lives instantly.
According to an eyewitness, the scene was harrowing. “The bus tried to swerve, but it was too late. The collision was so severe that many passengers didn’t survive,” he said.
Confirming the incident, the Managing Director of Kano Line, Alhaji Sa’idu Abdullahi Shu’aibu, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy.
He revealed that out of the 16 passengers on board, 12 died on the spot, including two company drivers identified as Alhaji Sabo and Alhaji Dan Azumi.
“Four women and one man sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital,” Shu’aibu said.
“We are heartbroken by this devastating loss. Our prayers are with the victims’ families, and we extend condolences to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, over this unfortunate incident.”
He also called for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent similar accidents in the future.
“We must ensure our roads are safer. Drivers, especially those handling heavy-duty vehicles, need to be more cautious,” he added.
Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether the tanker driver acted negligently.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a government hospital morgue in Wudil, while efforts are ongoing to contact their families.
