Police nab bandit collaborators as attacks escalate in Kano

Must read

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected collaborators of a notorious bandit group and launched fresh security operations across the state, with special focus on Makoda and Shanono local government areas.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, confirmed the arrests in a statement released late Saturday through the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to Bakori, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated midnight raid conducted around 2 a.m. on Friday by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Shanono Division.

The operation, he noted, was based on credible intelligence provided by residents of the Farin Ruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area.

He said the duo were allegedly working with bandits trying to infiltrate Kano State from neighboring territories.

“Our preliminary findings suggest that these suspects are part of a wider network facilitating criminal entry into the state,” Bakori stated.

The commissioner praised residents of Farin Ruwa for their alertness and cooperation, describing their intelligence as vital to the success of the operation. He encouraged communities across the state to emulate such vigilance.

“We commend the people of Farin Ruwa for their courage and timely information,” Bakori said. “Security is everyone’s responsibility.

“We urge residents to report suspicious activities immediately to the nearest police station.”

Meanwhile, the police command has intensified peace efforts in Barebari Ward of Makoda Local Government Area following renewed clashes between herders and farmers.

Bakori revealed that a series of meetings were held with community leaders, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders to address the crisis.

The sessions, he said, were chaired by the Area Commander of Dambatta, ACP Mohammed Gwarzo, and later by himself at the command headquarters in Kano.

“The discussions were frank and productive. We are committed to finding sustainable solutions that will prevent further conflict,” Bakori assured.

He reaffirmed the command’s resolve to maintain peace and protect lives and property, emphasizing that operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other crimes would continue without letup.

“The Kano Police Command remains determined to keep the state safe. Our officers are on the ground, and we are working closely with residents to ensure criminals have no hiding place,” he added.
