Tragedy struck in Benue State when a truck crushed three persons to death at Luga, a suburb along the Gboko–Aliade road.
The victims, identified as two brothers and a young lady, were said to be riding on a Bajaj motorcycle when the accident occurred. They were all confirmed dead on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the crash happened when two Dangote trucks, reportedly moving side by side at high speed on the narrow road, failed to maintain their lanes.
One of the trucks was said to have hit the motorcycle from behind, killing the three instantly.
Their remains were later taken to the mortuary at Agidi, another nearby community, while the two trucks were impounded and moved to the police station in Gboko.
When contacted, the chairman of the Gboko branch of Dantrans, the transport wing of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Adamu Alfa, confirmed the incident and described it as “sad.”
He clarified that although the accident occurred in Gboko, the trucks involved belonged to the Dangote Cement plant in Ibese, Ogun State, and not the Gboko plant.
Alfa also disclosed that the company conducts weekly sensitisation and orientation sessions for its drivers on safety practices and proper conduct on the road.
The deceased brothers were identified as Orgem Ugondo and Aondozungwe Ugondo of Mbatan kindred in Mbayion, Gboko Local Government Area.
The female passenger, who was reportedly given a lift by the brothers, was yet to be identified as of the time of filing this report.
