Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu has the capacity to deliver a new constitution acceptable to all Nigerians within six months.
Agbakoba stated this on Friday while featuring on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme.
He said that with the necessary political will and resources, the Tinubu administration could initiate and complete the process of giving the country a fresh constitution in record time.
According to him, the existing structure of government vests too much power in the office of the President, stifling development at the sub-national levels and creating the urgent need for devolution of powers.
“President Tinubu is the only person who has the capacity to drive a new constitutional process and can give Nigerians one within six months, as the National Assembly has taken too long to provide a solution,” he said.
Agbakoba also spoke on the recent arrest of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore following protests calling for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
He commended Sowore for his consistent activism and commitment to civic engagement.
