President Bola Tinubu on Thursday administered the oath of office to Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The swearing-in ceremony took place at about 1:50 pm inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Tinubu charged Amupitan to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s elections and electoral process as well as strengthen the institutional capacity of the Commission.
Amupitan’s inauguration followed his confirmation by the Senate a week ago, after undergoing a rigorous screening exercise on October 16.
The new INEC chairman’s appointment marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for the electoral body, as expectations mount for credible and transparent elections under his watch.
