Lagos Director dies in crash four days to retirement

Must read

Tragedy has struck the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) following the death of its Director of Procurement, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, barely four days to her retirement and 60th birthday celebration.

Talabi reportedly died in a road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway after being hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the highway near the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Camp, in the Ibafo area of Ogun State.

The late official had distributed invitation cards for a combined thanksgiving, retirement, and 60th birthday celebration scheduled for October 22, 2025, at the NERDC Conference Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

Confirming the incident, the agency expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of the senior civil servant.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Public Relations Officer of LASRRA, Basirat Lawal, described Talabi’s passing as a painful loss, adding that staff members were still in shock.

“We are still in shock after receiving the news. She was in the office on Friday, and everything had been arranged for her retirement ceremony on October 22.

“She was supposed to retire on October 13, when she clocked 60, but since our General Manager, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, was away, it was postponed to October 22. The agency will be present at her burial,” Lawal said.

Records show that Mrs. Talabi joined LASRRA in 2018 and rose through the ranks to become a director in 2025. Her colleagues described her as a diligent, humble, and committed officer who served with distinction until her last day.
