Nottingham Forest have appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager in a decisive move to revive their faltering Premier League campaign.
The former Everton and Burnley boss becomes the club’s third managerial appointment this season, underscoring Forest’s determination to steady a turbulent year.
The 54-year-old Englishman replaces Ange Postecoglou, whose short-lived tenure came to an abrupt end following a disappointing 3–0 defeat to Chelsea.
Dyche’s return marks a homecoming of sorts for the ex-Forest youth player, who once began his professional journey at the City Ground.
According to the club, Dyche has signed a contract running until 2027 and will take charge of his first game when Forest face FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday.
His immediate challenge will be to rescue a side currently languishing in 18th place with just five points from eight league matches.
In an official statement, the club said Dyche’s leadership and experience made him the ideal candidate to take charge at such a crucial moment.
“Sean embodies the discipline, organisation, and determination that reflect Nottingham Forest’s spirit,” the statement read.
“His record in the Premier League and deep understanding of our club’s values give us great confidence in his ability to lead this team forward.”
Dyche has been without a job since leaving Everton in January after two years at Goodison Park.
Before that, he famously guided Burnley to European qualification and earned a reputation for building defensively solid and hard-working teams.
Forest reportedly considered other candidates, including Fulham’s Marco Silva and Italy coach Roberto Mancini, but ultimately chose Dyche for his pragmatic style and proven track record of stabilising struggling sides.
Club insiders say his return is not just about results but also about rekindling a connection with supporters.
“Sean knows what Forest means to the people of this city,” said a senior club executive. “He has walked these grounds before, and that connection will be crucial in uniting the fans and players again.”
Joining Dyche on the coaching staff are Ian Woan and Steve Stone, both former Forest players who previously worked with him at Burnley and Everton. The duo are expected to help rebuild the team’s morale and strengthen ties with the fanbase.
The managerial reshuffle highlights what has been a chaotic start to the 2025/26 season for Forest.
Despite returning to European competition under Nuno Espírito Santo, the club’s momentum quickly faltered amid inconsistent performances and internal unrest.
With Dyche now at the helm, Forest’s hierarchy is banking on his trademark grit, defensive discipline, and motivational edge to guide the team out of the relegation zone and restore stability.
“It’s time to get back to basics,” Dyche was quoted as saying in his first interview. “Forest is a club with history and pride. My job is to rebuild that identity on the pitch, one game at a time.”
His appointment signals a new phase for Nottingham Forest, one that prioritises resilience, structure, and unity as they look to navigate their way back to Premier League safety and regain their competitive edge in Europe.
