Bandits have attacked farmers on the outskirts of Dayi town in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing a respected community elder, Mani Mai Taki, and abducting several others.
Security analyst, Bakatsine, disclosed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, which was sighted by AFRIPOST, noting that the attack occurred early in the morning while the victims were working on their farms.
He wrote: “This morning, bandits attacked farmers on the outskirts of Dayi town, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State. A respected community elder, Mani Mai Taki, was killed and several others were abducted. Notably, Malumfashi LGA had just reached a peace deal with bandits last week.”
The incident came barely a week after the Malumfashi Local Government reportedly entered into a peace agreement with the bandits in an effort to end recurring attacks in the area.
Residents said the latest assault has heightened fear and tension in the community.
Security operatives were said to have been deployed to the area to forestall further attacks and restore calm.
As of the time of filing this report, the Katsina State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
