Nottingham Forest have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou after a string of poor results, ending his brief tenure at the City Ground on a disappointing note.
The decision came just minutes after Forest’s 3-0 home loss to Chelsea on Saturday, their eighth match under the Australian coach.
In a statement posted on X, the club confirmed the development, saying:
“Following a series of unsatisfactory performances, Nottingham Forest Football Club has decided to part company with head coach Ange Postecoglou with immediate effect.”
The statement added that no further comment would be made for now.
Sources at the club said owner Evangelos Marinakis left his seat midway through the second half, visibly frustrated, and the official announcement was made shortly after the final whistle.
Postecoglou’s departure ends a turbulent six-week spell that began with optimism after his Europa League triumph with Tottenham earlier this year. However, the Forest boss struggled to replicate that success, failing to record a single win and suffering six defeats in eight matches.
Football fans on X have since be talking about the sack, A Nigerian user wrote, saying that Marinakis had “run out of patience” as the team slipped deeper into trouble.
“The owner felt things were not improving and wanted to act quickly before the season got away from them,” the user tweeted.
Before Saturday’s defeat, Postecoglou appeared confident about his long-term impact at the club.
“Whenever I’m given time, it ends with me and a trophy,” he said during his pre-match press conference.
His optimism, however, could not withstand the mounting pressure from fans and the board alike.
Reports suggest that former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche is among the leading candidates to take over, as Nottingham Forest prepare to appoint their third manager of the season.
The club will now be hoping a swift managerial change can revive their campaign and steer them away from the Premier League danger zone.
