An event meant to be a gesture of kindness turned chaotic when officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) reportedly disrupted Nollywood actress Sarah Martins’ charitable outreach along a road median in Lagos.
In a video now making the round on the internet, Sarah Martins could be seen cooking and serving food to the less privileged when KAI officials stormed the scene, seizing her cooking equipment and food items.
Eyewitnesses claim the officials accused her of “obstructing public space” and violating environmental laws by setting up along the road median.
The actress, visibly distraught, later took to social media to narrate her ordeal. According to her, the officials not only manhandled her but also poured hot oil on her hand, causing burns, all because she was offering free meals to the poor.
“I was just trying to do something nice for the needy,” she cried out in an emotional post. “Instead, KAI officials attacked me, seized everything, and even poured hot oil on me. Is this how we discourage kindness in this country?”
Many Nigerians have since taken to social media to express outrage, condemning the actions of the officials and calling for accountability. While some argued that the actress should have sought proper authorization before setting up her outreach, others insist that her good intentions should have been respected and supported.
As of now, the Lagos State Government has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. Meanwhile, Sarah Martins has vowed not to be silenced, promising to continue her mission to feed the poor despite the painful experience.
