Wear Asiwaju’s cap to exco meetings or no entry – Edo gov warns commissioners [Video]

Must read

A video circulating on social media has captured a moment when Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, humorously but firmly instructed his newly inaugurated commissioners to always wear “Asiwaju caps” to executive council meetings.

In the trending clip, the governor, addressing the newly sworn-in officials, told them that any commissioner who fails to appear with the signature cap associated with President Bola Tinubu would not be allowed into the meeting.

“If you’re coming to exco meeting without wearing Asiwaju cap, you’re going back,” Okpebholo said in the video, sparking mixed reactions among Nigerians online.

While some social media users interpreted the governor’s statement as a show of political alignment and respect for the presidency, others viewed it as satire reflecting the country’s deepening political symbolism.

Online 0olitical observers say the governor’s comment may also hint at a growing attempt by state officials to align themselves more closely with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The video, which has garnered thousands of views on various platforms, continues to generate conversations about loyalty, political identity, and the evolving relationship between state governments and the federal administration.
