Must read

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intercepted a vehicle loaded with substances suspected to be hard drugs during a routine stop-and-search operation in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The Nigerian Army announced the development on Wednesday in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) and sighted by AFRIPOST, saying the operation took place around Anguwan Malama in Akwanga Local Government Area on October 14.

According to the statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the driver of an ash-coloured Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos) fled into the bush after sighting the troops.

Despite a quick pursuit, the suspect escaped arrest, but a search of the vehicle uncovered several bags containing substances suspected to be marijuana.

“The vehicle and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation and subsequent handover to relevant authorities,” the statement said.

The Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance, resilience and professionalism, which led to the successful interception.

He reiterated the commitment of the operation to deny criminal elements freedom of action and to sustain inter-agency collaboration aimed at ensuring safety and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
