The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death during a dispute over N100,000.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying it occurred on October 7, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., and was reported at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters by one Ngozi Gregory.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the deceased had a heated argument over the refund of N100,000 which Ademola had earlier borrowed from her.

The quarrel reportedly turned violent, leading the suspect to assault Jimoh until she lost consciousness.

Police said she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

The statement said the Divisional Police Officer in Idanre, upon receiving the report, led a team of detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.

The victim’s body has since been deposited in a morgue for autopsy while investigation continues.

Condemning the act, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, vowed that justice would be served, warning that the Command would not tolerate domestic violence or any form of brutality.

“The Command will not tolerate any act of domestic violence or brutality under any guise,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Lawal ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for thorough investigation.

He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his continuous support to the Command and urged residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
