President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the renowned cleric and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away at the age of 80.

In a statement personally signed by him, Akpabio described the late evangelist as “God’s General” whose ministry touched lives across the world and left an indelible mark on the Christian faith.

The Senate President said Uma Ukpai devoted several decades to spreading the gospel globally while operating from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where his ministry became a beacon of hope and inspiration to millions.

“Today we mourn the passing of God’s General, Evangelist Uma Ukpai, whose transition has left the body of Christ and indeed humanity as a whole in a profound state of sadness,” Akpabio said. “He was not just an Evangelist who won many souls for God, but a beacon of light who illuminated countless souls.”

He lauded the late cleric’s unwavering commitment to preaching the gospel, describing him as a man of great faith who complemented his spiritual work with humanitarian services through the establishment of schools and healthcare facilities.

“His passing has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Though this is a great loss not just to the body of Christ, I find solace in the fact that Heaven has gained one more angel to watch over the flock of God,” Akpabio added.

The Senate President further noted that Evangelist Ukpai lived a fulfilled life of service to God and humanity, stating that his legacy of faith, compassion, and leadership will continue to inspire generations.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Pastor Philomena Uma Ukpai, his entire family, and the body of Christ. May you all find solace in the remarkable and impactful life that he lived,” Akpabio said.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the revered cleric, describing him as a faithful servant who has “fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith.”
