BREAKING: Osimhen’s hat-trick fires Nigeria past Benin in 4–0 World Cup qualifier

Must read

The Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered a dominant performance on Tuesday, October 14, overpowering Benin Republic 4–0 in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen stole the spotlight, bagging a sensational hat-trick with goals in the 3rd, 37th, and 51st minutes.

His explosive pace and sharp finishing left the Beninese defence in disarray as Nigeria took full control of the game.

Midfielder Frank Onyeka added the icing on the cake with a late strike deep into stoppage time, finishing off a clever assist from winger Moses Simon to seal the emphatic victory.

Benin, on the other hand, found it difficult to break through Nigeria’s organised backline marshalled by Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey.

Despite a few flashes of attacking intent, the visitors struggled to create clear opportunities.

Although. Nigeria got a commanding win, but hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup have faded, with South Africa also winning their match against Rwanda and leading the group table.
