A disturbing scene unfolded in Kano on Sunday, October 12, 2025, as fans of Kano Pillars allegedly assaulted players of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) following a tense Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter that ended in a 1–1 draw.
A viral video circulating on social media shows visibly shaken and injured Shooting Stars players inside their dressing room moments after the final whistle.
Some of the footballers were seen receiving first aid treatment, while others appeared distressed and frightened by the violent incident.
According to eyewitness comments online, chaos erupted shortly after the match concluded at the Sani Abacha Stadium, when a section of Pillars supporters invaded the pitch, hurling objects and allegedly attacking visiting players and officials.
The violence has reignited national outrage over recurring cases of hooliganism and poor crowd control at NPFL venues.
“This kind of brutality is unacceptable in modern football,” said a Twitter user. “It’s high time the league body enforces stricter sanctions to protect players and restore order.”
As of press time, neither the Nigeria Premier Football League management nor Kano Pillars officials had issued an official statement on the incident.
AFRIPOST reports that the NPFL, which has struggled for years to curb fan violence, now faces renewed scrutiny from football stakeholders calling for swift disciplinary measures and improved security protocols across stadiums.
The incident marks yet another dark chapter in Nigerian football, raising serious questions about the safety of players and officials during domestic league fixtures.
