Youths hit back at MACBAN over herdsmen attack claim

Must read

The Berom Youths Moulders Association (BYM) has dismissed allegations by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) that its members attacked herders in Plateau State.

MACBAN’s state chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, had alleged that youths from Inzon community in Fan District, Barkin Ladi Local Government, ambushed three herders on Tuesday, killing a 13-year-old boy, Abubakar Wada, injuring two others, and slaughtering 39 cattle.

“The incident happened in the evening. We have so far counted the losses of over 80 cattle because 36 were killed while 49 are still missing. The attack was carried out by the Berom people from the Fan district.

“Two herders escaped the attack. This is barbaric and unfortunate. The herders and the cattle were just passing peacefully without provocation,” the MACBAN Chairman had alleged.

Reacting on Wednesday night, BYM National President, Barrister Solomon Dalyop, denied the claims, saying there was no evidence linking Berom youths to the attack.

He described the accusation as unfounded and hasty, noting that security agencies had yet to investigate the incident.

“As far as we are concerned, the allegation labeling our peace loving inhabitants of Nding and Fan District in general has always been a ploy to justify any planned aggression on our people,” Dalyop said.

Dalyop alleged that contrary to MACBAN’s claims, suspected Fulani militias had instead launched coordinated attacks on communities in the area on Monday, killing one person and injuring others.

“We are aware of two simultaneous attacks carried out by suspected Fulani armed groups at about 7:30pm of 6th October, 2025, resulting to the killing of one Mr. Timothy Ishaku Chollom,” Dalyop insisted.

He urged the public to disregard the unsubstantiated claims, describing them as a ploy to incite violence and justify aggression against Berom communities.
