Award-winning songstress, Tiwa Savage has opened up about her initial reaction to one of her most iconic tracks, Dorobucci.
The singer admitted that when she first heard the song, she thought it was “crap,” never imagining that she would later feature on it.
In an interview with NotJustOk, the Afrobeats superstar shared that producer Don Jazzy played the track repeatedly while they were in Dubai for her wedding.
Tiwa confessed that she tried to conceal her true feelings at the time, unaware that it would eventually become one of Mavin Records’ biggest hits.
She explained that Don Jazzy’s fascination with the beat had begun long before the group recorded it. Throughout their stay at the hotel in Dubai, he played the song “over and over again,” insisting it had potential.
After the wedding, Don Jazzy encouraged her to fly back to Nigeria to record her verse.
Although Tiwa initially thought she was heading off on her honeymoon, she reluctantly agreed. When she later heard the finished version in the studio, she was blown away, calling the song’s transformation “flabbergasting.”
Tiwa revealed that she was actually the last artist to record her verse because she had doubts about the track’s potential. She compared her hesitation to a similar experience with another hit, Eminado, which she had also initially questioned.
