Police arrest Robert Nkata over N25m fraud allegation in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has detained a security expert, Dr Robert Anya Nkata, over his alleged involvement in a multi-million-naira fraud case currently being probed by the Force’s Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).

Police sources confirmed that Dr Nkata, who heads Pragmatic Security Concerns and Consults Ltd, was arrested following the discovery of documents that reportedly tied him to suspicious financial and administrative transactions.

The arrest came after a formal petition submitted to the Inspector General of Police by Igwenagu O. Ngene & Associates, representing Mrs Ngozi Appolonia Edeh-Anih, who accused Dr Nkata and another individual, Mrs Edeh-Omego, of fraud, conspiracy, and misrepresentation linked to the burial of the late Chief Stephen Edeh.

According to the petition, dated August 26, 2025, Mrs Edeh-Omego had introduced Dr Nkata to the family as a “close family friend” during the burial preparations in March 2025.

However, subsequent events allegedly exposed a coordinated scheme of deceit and diversion of funds meant for the burial.

It was alleged that ₦25 million, originally allocated for the ceremony, was diverted by Dr Nkata without approval. Efforts by Mrs Edeh-Anih to recover the funds reportedly led to a confrontation, during which she claimed to have been assaulted and threatened by men said to have been hired by the suspect.

The petitioner also accused the duo of making violent threats, allegedly boasting of affiliations with the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and expressing intentions to harm her.

Speaking on the petition, Barrister Igwenagu O. Ngene appealed to the Inspector General of Police to conduct a “discreet but speedy investigation” into the allegations to ensure justice and protection for his client.

When contacted, a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the FCID had commenced a comprehensive investigation into the claims.

“The suspect is cooperating with investigators, and updates will be provided through official police channels,” the officer said.

Police authorities added that the probe might extend to other individuals possibly linked to the case, though no additional names have been released as of press time.

Meanwhile, the complainant’s representatives declined to provide further comments, saying they preferred to allow the police to conclude their investigation.

The Force has urged the public to avoid spreading unverified claims about the case, assuring that the outcome of the investigation will be based strictly on credible evidence and due legal process.
