Police nab bandits, informant in Sokoto raid

Must read

The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended three suspected bandits, an informant, and a drug supplier during a coordinated raid targeting criminal activities in Kware Local Government Area.

According to police sources, the raid was executed by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after intelligence reports linked the suspects to a notorious gang terrorising several villages in Wamako and Kware.

The operation, conducted on October 4, led to the discovery of the group’s hideout in Sabon Birni, where the arrests were made.

Among those captured was one Bubale Mohammed, identified as a key member of the gang, along with two accomplices.

Also arrested were an informant who allegedly leaked information to the criminals and a suspected drug dealer accused of supplying the group with narcotics.

Police spokesperson ASP Ahmed Rufai confirmed the development, saying the operation was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to rid Sokoto of banditry and related crimes.

“Our men acted swiftly on credible intelligence, and we succeeded in dismantling a network that has long troubled residents of Kware and Wamako,” Rufai said.

Items recovered during the operation included several wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other assorted illicit substances.

Security officials also disclosed that video clips retrieved from the suspects’ phones showed them wearing military fatigues and brandishing assault rifles within their camp.

“The recovered footage gives us a clearer understanding of how the group operated. We are now tracing their supply channels and associates still at large,” a senior police officer involved in the raid explained.

The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.

Authorities assured that efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and ensure they face justice.
