A fresh wave of banditry has hit Katsina State, leaving one traveler dead and several others abducted along the Dayi–Tuge highway in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
Security analyst, Bakatsine, who resides in the North, confirmed the incident on Monday morning, October 6, describing it as another troubling sign of insecurity on major roads in the region.
According to him, the attack occurred on Sunday evening when armed bandits intercepted vehicles and motorcycles, shooting sporadically before taking hostages.
“The assailants blocked the road near Dayi–Tuge, killed a commuter, and whisked away others, including those on bikes,” Bakatsine said.
He further disclosed that residents are living in fear as this marks the second roadblock attack in the same area within a week. “People now avoid traveling after dusk because the roads are no longer safe,” he added.
Meanwhile, locals have repeatedly called for stronger security presence along the route, urging authorities to deploy more personnel to vulnerable highways in Katsina.
The Katsina State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident as of press time.
