Fulani community cries out over alleged attack in Plateau

Must read

The Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State has decried what it described as continuous and unprovoked attacks on herders by suspected natives in the area.

The group alleged that the attacks, which also target their livestock, have led to deaths and injuries among herders.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Fulani community in Riyom, Abdullahi Yusuf, the herders urged the authorities to take urgent steps to stop the attacks and prevent retaliatory violence that could lead to further bloodshed.

In the statement titled “Another Attack on Fulani Herders in Riyom,” Yusuf narrated how some Berom youths allegedly attacked a Fulani herdsman, inflicted serious injuries on him, and killed one of his cows.

“The Fulani community in Riyom Local Government Area wishes to draw the attention of the public to yet another unprovoked attack on our people,” Yusuf said.

“At about 4pm on Thursday, 2nd October, 2025, suspected Berom youths attacked a Fulani herder, Aliyu Sale Shehu, around Rim community, Rim Ward, Riyom LGA, Plateau State, leaving him with gunshot injuries.

“In the same incident, one cow was killed and eight others sustained gunshot wounds,” he added.

Yusuf said the attack was one of several incidents in which Fulani herders have been assaulted without provocation while their means of livelihood were being destroyed.

“They will attack our people mercilessly and if some of the affected herders decide to fight back, they will be tagged bandits and aggressors.

“Since the Thursday attack on Sale, there has been no statement, no action, and no justice from the government or community leaders. The silence only emboldens the attackers and increases the suffering of innocent Fulani herders.

“We demand urgent intervention from security agencies and call on the Plateau State Government to speak up and act before these unprovoked hostilities push the area into further crisis.

“The Fulani are equal citizens of Riyom and Plateau State, and our lives and properties must be protected. Enough is Enough,” he reiterated.
