Heavily armed bandits have raided a community along the Mayanchi–Anka highway in Zamfara State, killing some residents and abducting several others.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, who arrived on motorcycles, blocked the highway and opened fire on travellers and villagers, forcing many to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
One of the survivors, Malam Muhammad Ahmad, said the gunmen were heavily armed and operated for hours without resistance.
“They stopped us on the road and took many people away. Some of us managed to run into the bushes and hide among tall crops. That was how we escaped,” Ahmad recounted.
He added that his colleague, Abubakar Lawali Sardauna, was shot dead after refusing to follow the kidnappers into the forest.
The incident has caused panic among residents of nearby communities, many of whom have begun relocating for fear of further attacks.
As of press time, security agencies, including the Zamfara Police Command and the Nigerian Army, had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
