Festival turns violent as Ondo monarch, family attacked

Must read

A violent incident marred festivities in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday when some youths allegedly descended on the Onidogun of Idogun, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and their son, Prince Victor Bakare.

The disturbance reportedly broke out in Ishara quarters during the community’s New Yam Festival. Prince Victor, who had returned to celebrate with his family, was said to have been beaten by the assailants.

Narrating his ordeal to newsmen at the palace, Prince Victor, bearing visible injuries, claimed the youths went further to humiliate his parents.

He alleged that his mother was stripped half-naked while the monarch was molested.

He added: “the youths poured urine and other dirty substances on me for reasons best known to them.”

Oba Bakare, reacting to the attack, described it as “unfortunate,” lamenting what he called repeated hostility from some youths in the town.

He praised the swift intervention of police officers, which, according to him, helped to prevent the situation from escalating into a wider crisis.

The Amotekun Corps Coordinator in Idogun, Mr. Omatayo Johnson, also confirmed the incident, noting that security personnel were on hand to quickly restore peace and forestall a further breakdown of order.
