Troops on internal security operations in Kaduna have intensified their clampdown on criminal activities, arresting at least 15 suspects and recovering a large quantity of illicit substances during coordinated raids.
The crackdown, which was carried out under Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY) in collaboration with Keystone personnel and other security agencies, targeted notorious hideouts believed to be hubs for drugs and other unlawful dealings.
Military sources confirmed that the operation took place on September 29, when troops of Sub-Sector 3, 1 Division Garrison stormed several black spots across Kawo, Mando, and Rigasa within Kaduna metropolis.
During the exercise, the troops also recovered a tricycle suspected to have been abandoned by fleeing criminals. Security operatives said the vehicle will aid ongoing investigations.
A senior security official who spoke about the raid said the move was part of a sustained effort to disrupt criminal networks in the city.
“Kaduna has witnessed an upsurge in drug-related crimes, and these joint operations are aimed at dismantling the hideouts that fuel insecurity,” he explained.
The 15 suspects and seized exhibits have since been handed over to the Task Force Investigation Team for further screening and possible prosecution.
Security analysts have commended the operation, noting that such joint efforts between the military and other agencies are essential to reducing crime in urban centres.
“This collaboration shows that coordinated action is the most effective way to secure communities,” said a counter-insurgency expert in Kaduna.
Authorities have reassured residents that more raids will follow in a bid to rid the state capital of criminal gangs and restore public confidence.
