Suspected gunmen have abducted two councillors and an Imam in Tsauni community, Gusau, Zamfara State.
Police spokesman DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying the attack occurred on Wednesday night.
He explained that the councillors, representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government, as well as the community’s Imam, were whisked away by the assailants.
According to him, the victims were taken in front of their homes around 7 p.m., shortly after prayers.
The Tsauni community, located behind the Federal Road Safety Corps sector command headquarters in Gusau, had previously hosted internally displaced persons fleeing banditry in other parts of the state.
Abubakar added that security operatives had been deployed to the area, stressing that efforts were underway to rescue the victims.
He also appealed to residents to provide timely information that could help the police curb such attacks.
Chairman of Maradun Local Government, Sanusi Gamagiwa, who corroborated the police account, however said six people were initially kidnapped.
“They later released three persons and left with the two councillors and the Imam of the area.
“So far, they have yet to contact anyone of us to know their demands,” he said.
