A woman identified as Mrs. Charity Olotu Fasasi is battling for her life in a hospital after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband, David Fasasi Azeez, in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The incident was said to have occurred over the weekend following a heated dispute between the couple.
When DAILY POST visited the hospital, the victim was reportedly too weak to grant an interview.
Neighbours familiar with the matter alleged that the husband, who is now on the run, had repeatedly abused his wife in the past.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, claimed the latest clash arose from a disagreement over family planning after the mother of four disclosed that she was pregnant again.
“She said she was not going to terminate the baby and the husband got angry that he was not ready for another child,” the source alleged.
Another neighbour said the suspect offered his wife ₦5,000 to procure an abortion, which she refused. The victim later took some medication on her own, leading to excessive bleeding.
“When the drug started reacting and she started bleeding, the man made a u-turn and questioned why she later changed her mind. This is where the present issue started from. But it’s not a new thing, everyone in the environment knows he usually beat the woman but she has not been speaking out,” the source added.
As of yesterday, the suspect’s whereabouts remained unknown.
The matter has been reported to the Ushafa Police Division, but the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command was yet to respond to enquiries at press time.
